The long awaited reopening of Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery was on Saturday 14th February and did not disappoint.
Whitechapel Art Plaster worked closely with ISG, the main management contractor on site and also the City of Manchester’s heritage department. Whitechapel Art Plaster created the hand crafted, run in situ, plaster cornice shown in the image above.
We are specialists in the art of fine plaster and associated joinery finishes, we enhance the finish of buildings with gypsum and lime based plaster. We are familiar with all traditional solid plastering and ornamental fibrous plaster techniques. These have been employed at the Whitworth, alongside the more contemporary boarded systems to ensure the interior of the building is ready.
As well as working with industrial contractors within the UK, we do also complete many domestic projects. Below is a picture of fibrous plaster cornice, arches and curved work, installed to an interior designer’s specification, at a new build domestic dwelling in Lancashire.
